What to know before visiting a tailor

Getting made-to-measure and tailored clothes is truly a personal experience- from attending fittings to having your measurements done, the tailor (in JSMP’s case, the designer) gives you 100% of his/her attention so that the end product is exactly what you want. To ensure a smooth experience during your tailor appointments, there are a few tops tips that we’d like to share with you:

  1. Look into your wardrobe, think of a few items that you really love and why

By doing this, it helps you visualise the fit and cut that is suitable for you, the fabrics that work best on your body and the styles that are the most flattering on you. With this in mind, it will be way easier for us to know what minor adjustments you want on the made-to-measure designs (e.g. you normally dresses slightly above the knees rather than knee length), or if you are going for our bespoke service, how we can design something that you will love to wear every day.

  2. If there is already an item that you would like to purchase from our made-to-measure collections, consider the following:

Fit- do you prefer your dress to be generally loose fitted at the waist or tighter fitted?
Length- what length do you like your sleeves and hem to be normally?
Collars- do you prefer the collars to be taller or shorter normally?
Any others- do you feel uncomfortable showing too much of a certain part of your body, e.g. knees/ thighs/ shoulders… , we can make adjustments to the designs so that the final product can accommodate that

  3. Pinterest could be your best friend

If you are coming to JSMP to make a bespoke shirt, look into Pinterest or instagram for inspiration beforehand. Think of what you really like in the styles- is it the colour of the pockets? The texture of the fabric? The cutting? We will work with you during the conversation to make sure the end product is what you like.

  4. Listen to the tailor/ designer as well

A good tailor or designer will be able to tell you whether or not a piece of garment will look flattering on you, and how the minor bespoke adjustments could work on the pieces you have purchased.

After considering the above tips, do you feel ready for an appointment now? Book via our website! We look forward to seeing you!
