JSMP’s well-crafted special edition drops with Thomas Mason and WM Brown Project

When I started working with Thomas Mason for her made-to-measure fashion brand, I never expected it to turn into such a fruitful relationship. I always adore craftsmanship, timeless elegance and creativity, these are the few things that define Thomas Mason as a leading fabric maker too. So when they reached to me about a special collaboration together with WMBrown Project, a men lifestyle magazine, I immediately said yes.

In collaboration with Matt Hranek, founder of the WM Brown Project, Thomas Mason created a limited edition of fabrics which combines unwavering quality, artisanal care and bold creativity. Thomas Mason designers took inspiration from WM Brown archery target logo and Matt Hranek favourite drink – the Negroni. The result is a plaid that takes its colours from the target and a stripe that perfectly matches the hue of a well-mixed Negroni. This is a collaboration that celebrates Thomas Mason timeless elegance with WM Brown’s contemporary take on shirting- something that JSMP has been championing as well.

As usual, I take inspiration of my muses when designing the pieces, and this time we have the honour to work with Florence Tsai (again) and Jeremy Wong. In this blog I will explain my take on using the Thomas Mason x WM Brown Project fabrics and turning them into contemporary designs for the JSMP clientele.

Clients who have been wearing JSMP would know that I like adding a bit of modern touch to conventional designs. I would add simple patterns to a mandarin collar, or make use of repetitiveness in the patterns I would like to create in a shirt. And this time, it is no different.

To create a sense of connectivity between the two fabrics, I made use of denim. For the plaid, I have designed a men’s modern mandarin collar shirt that features denim throughout. Jeremy had previously expressed his interest in mandarin lapel, and with his job as an actor which requires his presence in many public events, I thought playing with a double-collared shirt would add some edginess to his style. It’s as if he has a shirt underneath another shirt, one made with denim and another with plaid. Except that it doesn’t look bulky at all and so stylish for anyone who wants to go for a more playful casual look.

For Florence’s shirt, I created an elegant kimono-style look with the Negroni stripes, featuring a light denim on its collars. I know from the start the Negroni stripes would look really good on Flroence, but I just want to add a subtle denim colour to it overall so that it can match with her aesthetic even better. Furthermore, I always design my shirts with the activities of my clients in mind, it needs to be versatile for many occasions. This shirt I designed achieves that purpose- it can be worn to work, to a weekend brunch, or you can dress it up for an evening drinks.”
